  1. Appendix B Connecting to On-Line Services

  3. This appendix contains detailed instructions for using your CommuniCard modem with specific on-line services.
  4.  
  5. Using America Online (AOL) To use America Online with a CommuniCard modem, follow these steps:
  6.  
  7. 1.     Select the Dayna CommuniCard file that matches your modem (i.e. CommuniCard, CommuniCard/C, or CommuniCard Plus) from the AOL FOLDER inside the MODEM DOCUMENTATION folder which is located inside the DAYNA DIAGNOSTICS folder. Copy the file that matches your modem into the ONLINE FILES folder located inside the America Online folder.

  9. 2.     After starting the America Online application, click the SETUP button.
  10.  
  11. 3.     Set the connection speed to 57600 bps.
  12.  
  13. 4.     In the CONNECTION PORT pop-up menu, select the Upper PC Card Slot, Lower PC Card Slot, or CommuniCard Plus icon, depending on where your modem has been inserted and what type of CommuniCard modem you have. (If your modem is not currently inserted, it will not be displayed in the window.)

  15. 5.     Select Dayna CommuniCard, CommuniCard/C, or CommuniCard PLUS from the MODEM TYPE pop-up menu.

  17. Using Apple Remote Access (ARA) To use ARA with a CommuniCard modem, follow these steps:

  19. 1.     Launch the Apple Remote Access application and select REMOTE ACCESS SETUP from the SETUP menu.
  20.  
  21. 2.     Select DAYNA COMMUNICARD, DAYNA COMMUNICARD/C, or DAYNA COMMUNICARD PLUS from the MODEM pop-up menu. The CommuniCard Installer automatically installs the Dayna CommuniCard CCLs required by ARA to access any of the CommuniCard PC Card modems. These files are installed into the Extensions Folder inside the System Folder on your Macintosh.

  23. 3.     From the PORT pop-up menu, select the Upper PC Card Slot, Lower PC Card Slot, or CommuniCard Plus icon, depending on where your modem has been inserted and what type of CommuniCard modem you have. (If your modem is not currently inserted, it will not be displayed in the window.)

  34.                Using FirstClass™ Version 2.5 or Later
  35.  
  36. To use FirstClass™ with a CommuniCard modem, follow these steps:

  38. 1.     Select the Dayna CommuniCard file that matches your modem (i.e.
  39. CommuniCard, CommuniCard/C, or CommuniCard Plus) from the FIRSTCLASS FOLDER inside the MODEM DOCUMENTATION folder which is located inside the DAYNA DIAGNOSTICS folder. Copy the file that matches your modem into the MODEMS folder located inside the FirstClass Client folder.

  41. 2.     Copy the DAYNA ONLINE BBS settings file from the FIRSTCLASS FOLDER to the SETTINGS folder inside the FirstClass Client folder.

  43. 2.     After starting the FirstClass application, select the DAYNA ONLINE BBS settings file and click the SETUP button.

  45. 3.     Select MODEM.FCP from the CONNECT VIA pop-up menu. In the MODEM pop-up menu select DAYNA COMMUNICARD, DAYNA COMMUNICARD/C or DAYNA COMMUNICARD PLUS. Click the SETUP button.

  47. 4.     In the PROTOCOL pop-up menu, select COMM TOOLBOX SERIAL.

  49. 5.     Click the SETUP COMM TOOLBOX button.

  51. 6.     In the METHOD pop-up menu, select SERIAL TOOL.

  53. 7.     Set the connection speed to 57600 bps and set the Hardware Handshake to DTR & CTS.

  55. 8.     Select the Upper PC Card Slot, Lower PC Card Slot, or CommuniCard Plus icon, depending on where your modem has been inserted and what type of CommuniCard modem you have. (If your modem is not currently inserted, it will not be displayed in the window.)

  57. 9.     Save your changes.

  59. Using AppleLink To use AppleLink with a CommuniCard modem, follow these steps:

  61. 1.     The file named PC Card Modem (USA) must be installed in the "Connection Files" folder (in the AppleLink folder) on your hard drive. This file comes with the PowerBook 500 series PCMCIA card cage. It is also available on Applelink in the PCMCIA/PC Card Information directory within the PowerBooks directory within the Mobile Systems directory (Mobile Systems:PowerBooks: PCMCIA/PC Card Information:).

  63. 2.     Launch the AppleLink application.

  65. 3.     Select SET UP CONNECTION in the NETWORK menu.

  79. Using eWorld To use eWorld with a CommuniCard modem, follow these steps:

  81. 1.     Select the Dayna CommuniCard file that matches your modem (i.e. CommuniCard, CommuniCard/C, or CommuniCard Plus) from the "eWorld" folder inside the "Modem Documentation" folder which is located inside the "Dayna Diagnostics" folder. Copy the file that matches your modem into the "eWorld Files" folder located inside the "eWorld" folder.

  83. 2.     After starting the eWorld application, click the EDIT LOCAL SETUP button and select the Upper PC Card Slot, Lower PC Card Slot, or CommuniCard Plus icon, depending on where your modem has been inserted and what type of CommuniCard modem you have. (If your modem is not currently inserted, it will not be displayed in the window.)

  85. 3.     Choose the CommuniCard file that matches your modem (i.e. CommuniCard, CommuniCard/C, or CommuniCard Plus) from the MODEM TYPE pop-up menu.
  86. Using CompuServe (MacCIM™) To use CompuServe with a CommuniCard modem, follow these steps:

  88. 1.     After launching the CompuServe Information Manager, select CONNECTION from the SETTINGS pop-up menu within the SPECIAL menu.

  90. 2.     Select APPLE MODEM TOOL from the METHOD pop-up menu.
  91.  
  92. 3.     Click the CONFIGURE button.
  93.  
  94. 4.     Enter the correct phone number in the Dial Phone Number edit box.
  95.  
  96. 5.     Select HAYES-COMPATIBLE MODEM in the MODEM pop-up menu.
  97.  
  98. 6.     Configure the Port Settings for a Baud rate of 57600, No Parity, 8 Data Bits, 1 Stop Bit, and DTR&CTS Handshake.

  100. 7.     Select the Upper PC Card Slot or Lower PC Card Slot icon, depending on where your modem has been inserted. (If your modem is not currently inserted, its icon will not be displayed in the window.)
